Why I started this.

I was stuck in one dead-end job after another, constantly feeling like I had no real path forward. My degree felt worthless, no fancy resume, or connections — just a strong work ethic and the desire to build something better. I discovered independent sales in the trades almost by sheer luck, but it completely changed my life. It gave me the income, freedom, and control I’d been chasing for years.

Now, I’ve created this playbook to help others like me do the same — no fluff, no gate-keeping, just a real path to opportunity.

Tim Borthwick - Founder of the Sell For The Trades Playbook

There wasn't a system. So I made one.

There was no road map — no system, no training, nothing built for people like me. I had to figure it out through trial, error, and a lot of hustle. Over time, I developed a simple, repeatable sales system that actually works in this space — one that helped me land deals, build trust with business owners, and create real income. Now I’m passing that system on to others, so you don’t have to start from scratch like I did.

FAQs

Why Selling for the Trades Works (and Why It’s a Smart Move):

  1. Endless Demand, Underserved Industry
The trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.) are essential services — people will always need them. These businesses are constantly looking for more jobs, but most don’t have a sales system or a dedicated rep. That’s your opportunity.

  2. High Earning Potential, Low Barrier to Entry
You don’t need a degree, license, or years of experience. Close a few deals a month, and you can earn $3K–$10K+ in commissions — with no ceiling on growth.

  3. Total Freedom and Flexibility
You choose who you work with, when you work, and how much you work. No boss, no schedule, no office. It’s a career built around your lifestyle, not the other way around.

  4. You’re Solving a Real Problem
Trades business owners are great at their craft — but many struggle to find time or talent for sales. You’re not pushing products — you’re helping businesses grow. That makes your role valuable and respected.

  5. Proven System, Clear Starting Point
You’re not figuring this out alone. The playbook gives you a step-by-step system that’s already been tested and used in the field. It’s built to help you get moving fast — and succeed without guesswork.

I’m giving this playbook away for free because I wish someone had handed it to me when I was starting out — and now it’s my way of opening the door for others to do the same.

Is blue collar sales the next big career move?

Sep 23, 2025
For years, white-collar jobs have dominated the conversation around career success, but there’s a quiet shift happening that more people are starting to notice—blue-collar sales is becoming a serious contender for the next big career move. Think less suit-and-tie cold calls and more boots-on-the-ground, high-trust selling in industries like roofing, HVAC, plumbing, solar, and construction services. These roles combine the grit and straightforwardness of skilled trades with the earning potential and flexibility of traditional sales jobs. Many of these positions don't require a four-year degree, but they still offer six-figure income potential for those who can build relationships and close deals. And with an aging workforce and growing demand for infrastructure and home services, the timing couldn’t be better.
